Google limited access to the Gemini 2.5 models to users who have actively used them before. The models are not deprecated, and Google recommends 3.5 Flash-Lite or 3.8 Flash for new projects.

New projects or new users that planned to call Gemini 2.5 models.

What to do:

Start new projects on Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite or 3.8 Flash.

Copilot removes Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 3 Flash

GitHub removed Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 3 Flash from all Copilot experiences, announced on July 2. Suggested replacements are Gemini 3.1 Pro (Preview) and Gemini 3.6 Flash.

Who is affected:

Copilot users and workflows pinned to Gemini 2.5 Pro or Gemini 3 Flash.

Action needed:

Switch to Gemini 3.6 Flash or another supported model.
