Lior GrossmanShipping software since 1993, now building with AIOpenAI's gpt-4o-mini-tts with the Echo voice won my September 2026 audiobook test. In short clips, Google's Gemini voices were clearly better, but they shifted voice every few minutes. Echo is less expressive, but it sounds like the same person from start to finish, and the joins between parts are much harder to hear. Echo was the best OpenAI voice I tried, with a good pace, and it sounded fairly natural, although voice texture was slightly robotic.
