Anthropic acknowledges Claude Code users hitting usage limits far faster than expected

The Register reported high token usage and early quota exhaustion. Anthropic said it was investigating as the top priority, after a peak-hours quota reduction it said would affect about 7% of users and the end of a doubled-limits promotion. The Hacker News thread drew 331 points and 224 comments.

Claude Pro and Max subscribers using Claude Code in late March 2026.
Action needed:
Update Claude Code. Anthropic later traced part of the drain to a caching bug fixed April 10.
